My Husband, Msgt Charles Cogburn has given his life to serving others. He served for 22 years in the United States Air Force/NM Air National Guard, being activated and deployed overseas many times. He served 20 years as a Paramedic Lt. with the Albuquerque Fire Department, saving many lives here in Albuquerque. He has served as the Leadership Teacher at Wilson Middle School for the past 12 years, where his mentorship has changed the lives of many of Albuquerque’s children. He was named as the Middle School Teacher of the Year for the State of New Mexico by the VFW for 2019. They also just returned from Washington DC where his student Cadets qualified for and competed for the second year in a row in an underwater robotics competition. He has served this Nation, this City and the Wilson MS Community with Distinction and Pride always putting others before himself. We live in Tijeras NM and our roof is in dire needs of repair after surviving the Dogwood Fire three years ago there was minor damage due to falling ash and embers and we have had several hail storms already this year. Thank You for this opportunity and your consideration ...

We would like to nominate our father, Abel Anaya Jr. who is the foundation of our family. Our father has served his country faithfully and honorably in both the Air Force and the Army for over 30 years. He was deployed to Korea for a year back in 1969 and retired after serving over 30 years in April 2000 with the Army Reserves. He raised 3 daughters and taught each of us the true meaning of Hard Work which he has also passed down to his grandsons.

Our father was a huge influence on each of his grandsons in his own special way. Because of that, 3 of his grandsons started their military career with the Air National Guard and 2 of his grandsons have gone to be Albuquerque Fire & Rescue lieutenants/paramedic firefighters. He is also continuing to be a positive role model to his great-grandchildren, which he and our mother babysit daily.

Our father came from a family of 8 brothers and 2 sisters and was raised that if anything was broken or needed fixing you fixed it yourself and if you didn't know how, you learned and then taught the others. He went on to ...

We are nominating our father, Albert "Max" Beck for a new roof. He served in the army from 1969-1971 in Vietnam for our great nation and then spent another 4 years on reserve. After his military career, he worked in the mines in Grants and in Human Resources at the University of New Mexico. He helped support three wonderful boys, and is now retired with four wonderful granddaughters. A couple years ago, he and his wife spent over $14,000 on a new roof only to find out that the now out-of-business company had effectively scammed them out of their money. Shoddy workmanship and poor business practices led their roof to bubble, crack, and leak only two years after the work was done. Now, anytime it rains, they are left wondering where in the house the next leak will start. Please help him with a new roof!

I would like to nominate my husband Edward J Martinez who served over 30 years as an active duty Infantryman. In that time my husband deployed on numerous occasions in defense of our great Nation. Serving for over 30 years has taken its toll on my husband both physically and mentally. He is 100% service connected disabled. Because we moved pretty much on a yearly bases, we never owned a home until my husband retired in 2010. The house we purchased has had a leaky roof since we bought it. We have dealt with numerous "roofers" and spend thousands of dollars but the "roofers" take our money and run. Every time it clouds up my husband gets great anxiety which is bad for his PTSD. Please help us so we can live in peace and enjoy the rain.

Actually this is for myself. I'm retired from the Air Force. Bought this house as a first time buyer. But can't afford a new roof. Tried to use white latex to seal the bad areas but it didn't stay. Estimates for a layover is around $9-10,000.

I am nominating my husband who served 20 years in the military. Has PTSD due to being in Afghanistan. We bought our house 2 years ago. He works hard to provide for our family and we are in need of a new roof but cannot afford one. I know this would ease his mind tremendously.

Since childhood, Tolani Francisco has had a love for animals. She used to attract animals of all types as a child. When she was 15 years old, she witnessed a ewe being sheered at her great uncles' sheep camp and was horrified when it was eviscerated while alive by the sheerer. That drove her desire to become a veterinarian post high school. She went to Kansas State University and graduated but due to financial constraints her desire to open a veterinary clinic on her reservation had to be put on hold. She has been providing what care she can in her parent's converted garage for nearly 29 years, coming home once a month from her duty stations across the globe. In 2017, she moved back to NM and was issued a dilapidated house just off of I-40 at the Laguna Pueblo. She has hopes of repairing it to be the Free/low cost Laguna Clinic for all tribal animals large or small for the area. The roof of the house is nearly gone and she is funding all of the costs of the medications and time solely from herself. A roof for ...

My dad served in the military for 25 years as an MP. He then retired and decided to be a school teacher. He teaches 4th grade in Santa Fe, but his roof has gone into dis-repair. His air conditioner leaked and rotted away his roof, which means he’ll need a new one. He’s also raising my two nieces on top of all of the other things he does and has done.

I am retired from the Army with disability and also draw SSID. I
have numerous health issues which prevents me from doing most of the DIY projects that I
love to do. My girlfriend and I are raising her 3 grandkids and the rattling roof scares them. I purchased a flipp property in Moriarty, in April. To my surprise, I have found many things to be built wrong. I am living on a limited income and when I have to pay someone to come out and fix something that's not right, it puts a strain on other payments. When the wind blows, the roof rattles and the house shakes. There are no leaks yet, but it's only a matter of time. I am afraid that if I loose my roof, I will be homeless.

I am a 51 year old, 100% service connected disabled Veteran. I have been married for 2 years and have been a home owner in Chama for 2 years also. I am in need of a new roof. I was informed my current roof leaks and won't last 2-3 more years. I live in the village of Chama NM and we receive substantial amounts of snow. Last winter was huge. I have a metal corrugated roof. I would sleep much better if I had a roof that didn't leak. I live month to month on my VA benefits, not much left over for roof fund. Thanks for all your help and this opportunity to submit an entry.
