2019 Winner: Abel Anaya Jr. 

We would like to nominate our father, Abel Anaya Jr. who is the foundation of our family. Our father has served his country faithfully and honorably in both the Air Force and the Army for over 30 years. He was deployed to Korea for a year back in 1969 and retired after serving over 30 years in April 2000 with the Army Reserves. He raised 3 daughters and taught each of us the true meaning of Hard Work which he has also passed down to his grandsons. 

Our father was a huge influence on each of his grandsons in his own special way. Because of that, 3 of his grandsons started their military career with the Air National Guard and 2 of his grandsons have gone to be Albuquerque Fire & Rescue lieutenants/paramedic firefighters. He is also continuing to be a positive role model to his great-grandchildren, which he and our mother babysit daily.

Our father came from a family of 8 brothers and 2 sisters and was raised that if anything was broken or needed fixing you fixed it yourself and if you didn't know how, you learned and then taught the others. He went on to teach his daughters and grandchildren how to mix and lay cement, lay tile, fix the A/C and the list goes on. 

His house is over 50 years old and his roof leaks when it rains. Which means my mother has buckets throughout the house to keep the floors from getting wet. If it was up to him he would be up on his roof fixing the leaks himself, at the young age of 79. He is unable to do all the household fixes and updates like he use to (but don't let him know that ...lol). Our father would never ask for this himself because he is to proud. But we truly believe he deserves this it without question.

Anyone who has had the pleasure to call our father a friend knows he would literally give his shirt off his back for someone in need without judgement. He even donated one of his kidneys to his brother back in the 90's, which gave his brother life for may more years to spend with his family. 

Our father has worked selflessly to help his community/neighborhood which he has lived in for the past 52 years. He has and will stop what he is doing to help a stranger, his neighbors and especially his family with whatever they may need. 

In life, we encounter a countless number of individuals. Individuals who have a positive impact on our lives, individuals who have a negative impact or those who have no impact at all. Then there are those who have a monumental positive impact on our lives. Those you will remember forever, those who assisted in the molding and success of your life, those you wish the world had more of . When it comes to "those" individuals, Abel Anaya Jr. undoubtedly is one of the most influential individuals anyone would want to have the please of knowing . 

He is truly an Amazing man, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
